Opening Night Party

A sold-out crowd filled the rooftop terrace of The Ellington apartments Thursday night to celebrate the sweet opening of the sixteenth annual Reel Affirmations International Gay and Lesbian Film Festival. Clouds cleared to reveal a DC skyline that glowed monumentally — the views were spectacular — as were patrons’ reviews of the opening movie, Shortbus. Actors Jay Brannan and Peter Stickles walked over from the Lincoln — and, as everyone wrapped up in their Nellie’s Sports Bar T-shirts to keep warm, the big question was: How in the world could Winter crash the party without a pass?

Thankfully Diageo liquors and Alero tastings helped fight the chill. Appreciations, too, to Amber Waves and The Ellington for their generous assistance.
